The Sturt State Emergency Service Unit comprises of volunteers who provide a rescue service dedicated to protecting life and property, not only in our local community, but across South Australia and interstate.
The Sturt Unit operates with approximately 40 volunteer members and we encourage both male and female persons over 18 years of age to join.
Our Unit Headquarters is located at 20 Ackland Hill Road, Coromandel Valley, where we are co-located with the Coromandel Valley Country Fire Service. We train every Tuesday night at the unit commencing at 7:00 pm.
The area we are directly responsible for stretches from Blackwood and Bedford Park in the north, to Clarendon and Happy Valley in the south. From Flagstaff Hill and Aberfoyle Park in the west, to Crafers, Stirling and Mylor in the East. This covers a total area of approximately 320 square kilometres, and is a mix of urban and rural communities with a population of over 300,000 people.
Each year Sturt SES Unit responds to an average of 600 requests for assistance, undertaking a wide range of storm, flood and rescue situations.
